Port Blair Stole My Heart: A Travel Story You’ll Never Forget

Port Blair

I never expected Port Blair to be the one setting surprises for me. You were not aware that you were going there for beaches and blue water. I found instead tales, muteness, good humans, and time that planted itself inside me until I reached home. Well, you must add Port Blair to your travel destination list if you ever want a bit of peace while enjoying all the vibrancy.

The First Morning Seems Like a Dream

Fresh cool air and seas as blue as can be. The day started with an early walk in Port Blair along the sea walk. They were getting the fishermen were already up and going, and the street was still and quiet as could be. That one simple morning made me take time and just be.

Cellular Jail Left a Deep Mark

Our first point was the notorious Cellular Jail. Although I’ve heard about them and seen pictures, they just aren’t the same. The Walls inside the prison felt almost to hold the history of those who had died for freedom. The evening Light & Sound show gave me chills, and I sat quietly remembering every part of our history.

Ross Island Was Beautiful and Mysterious

Ross Island was where I was, a short boat ride away. The old British buildings have been overgrown by nature. It is filled with overwhelming nature; giant trees grow through broken walls, and peacocks walk openly on the pathways.

It felt like entering a world long lost. It was like a painting at every corner, and I ended up taking photos without even trying.

Corbyn’s Cove Was Perfect for Doing Nothing

The best locations are those that demand an element of adventure. Port Blair Corbyn’s Cove is about peace. My days in those days were spent beneath the shelter of a coconut tree listening to the breaking of waves while observing families who fed pigeons.

Having not been so far into travel yet, I almost wanted the excitement of a monumental tourist attraction experience; Cape Town was them. Sometimes it is a little hour at the sea accompanied without plans.

North Bay Island Showed Me Another World

The water on North Bay Island is as clear as water can get. Port Blair, I took a scuba dive, and boom, fish of all colors were present, with sparkling coral formations surrounding me. I felt we were on another planet.

But if the water sports scare you, this is the perfect place to do them as well. The people are super nice and helped us get it all going, with loads of fun.

Chidiya Tapu Gave Me the Best Sunset

I arrived at Chidiya Tapu by late afternoon, walking through the green areas. Whispers of birds echoed; the breeze was cool on a gentle surface.

Then the sun began to go down. From blue to orange, pink to almost black purple. I’ve spent my entire life chasing them all around the sky here and overseas, never more than fleeting and never will be more than this memory.

Small Moments That Made the Trip Special

Port Blair was not all just about the renowned sites it had to offer. It was those who smiled while giving directions. It was the seafood caught along the beach here. The one who told me stories of island life was the shopkeeper.

It was these little things that made the city feel warm and human. To travel is to relate” was repeated by the local friends more than a dozen times.

What I Wish I Had Known Earlier

Pack Light Clothes. The climate here is generally hot & humid, so carry light Cotton loose shirts, etc. Wake early in the morning (The best part for island hopping by boat).

Allow yourself time. The beauty of this place is that it almost makes you pause and stand still. Don’t try to zoom between places; one gets richly rewarded for being observant at Port Blair.

Cessation

Port Blair is no beach affair. A convergence of history and nature, where the days feel just slightly mellower than its predecessor. I came back with photos, souvenirs, and something much more precious: a great sensation of peace that I still recall.

Plan It: Start your journey in the Andaman Islands at Port Blair. You could arrive just as a tourist, but you will leave with a narrative that seems autobiographical.
